Regional News: Enological Society of the Pacific Northwest

The Regional Board met the morning after the Wine and Food Festival. The function of this group is to provide leadership for areas of common interest to all the chapters in the Society. The most important of these is insurance: using dues collected from the chapters, the board obtains general liability and directors and officers liability insurance for the Society. Four items of general interest were considered:

  1. We agreed to increase our general liability coverage from $2M to $4M. This can be done without any appreciable increase in cost as we are dropping some property insurance that is no longer needed.
  2. We welcomed two new chapters into the Society: the San Juan Island chapter and the Treasure Valley chapter (so we are no longer the sole Idaho chapter).
  3. We agreed to pay for a Society website to provide a general event calendar covering all chapter events along with other wine-related events of interest in the region, to link together the various chapter websites, and to provide a forum for wine-related political issues affecting our membership.
  4. We decided to issue a generic Society membership card. This will provide proof of membership when attending other chapters’ events and a means of recognition for obtaining winery discounts and the like.
