SYRAH/SHIRAZ
The syrah/shiraz tasting was a great opportunity to examine the various stlyles of the same grape from around the world. The first flight showcased Northern Rhone with some of the best of Washington State's offerings. Stylistically speaking it was a classic difference between the high acid old world vs the ultra ripe highly oaked new world. The second flight consisted of California paired against Australia. From this tasters limited experience and in the light of this particular tasting one might make a case that the Washington "style" approaches the richness of Australia's offerings
and that California is more similiar to the lean elegance of France. However I am sure this assumption is ripe for argument and that certainly more samples need to be tasted. Oh the drudgery.
